The Apex Court quashed the sedition case registered by Himachal Pradesh Police against journalist Vinod Dua for criticising the central government's impose of COVID-19 lockdown, by uploading YouTube video last year.
Order delivered by a bench of justice U U Lalit and Vineet Saran:
"We have quashed the proceeding and FIR. Every journalist will be entitled to the protection under Kedar Nath Singh (sedition) judgement"
However the court rejected a prayer by Vinod dua to direct that no FIR should be registered against any media personal with 10 years of experience unless cleared by expert committee:
"We have rejected the committee formation prayer since it will be e directly encroaching upon the legislative domain. However the FIR against Vinod dua stand quashed" the Court said.
